Students on this course would be expected to attend the studio on a regular basis to continue working on their coursework and develop ideas. One day a week would be the aim. A special rate of £10 per day (plus material charges) would apply for the practical days. Students would also be invited to participate in an end of year exhibition to be held either at the studio or gallery location and may want to include work on the Sussex Printmaking website gallery page. No previous printmaking experience is necessary but a background in art would be helpful

CONTEMPORARY PRINTMAKING USING NON - TOXIC METHODS

Tutor: Altea Grau Vidal

£280 for 6x5hr sessions

Fri: 11am – 5pm   Oct 4 - Nov 8

For many centuries the traditional process used for etching a plate was to use acid, but more recently this has been replaced by copper sulphate with the addition of salt to make a safer solution in which to etch aluminium, zinc and steel plates. Aluminium plates give a natural base tone (similar to aquatint), and with the use of familiar household products you can achieve a range of marks from precise line to splashes and washes. Traditional wax resists have also been super-ceded by materials that eliminate the use of solvents to a large extent. During the course, Altea will introduce innovative techniques that encourage spontaneous and diverse methods of mark making, as well as showing you how to produce different results in the image through a diversity of printing methods.

FRIDAY PRINTMAKING STUDIO TIME

£150 per 6 sessions or £30 per day

Jan 10 – Feb 14   10:30am – 4:30pm

Feb 28 – Mar 4    10:30am – 4:30pm

These sessions are designed for those who can work independently but who would like occasional technical help to consolidate their skills. Former experience is necessary but support is to hand if needed. Enjoy continuing your printmaking while gaining further confidence with technical support to hand.
