'A PAINTERLY APPROACH TO COLLAGRAPH' - 4 DAY COURSE

Cost: £160 plus small material charge according to usage (ink and paper)
Availability: 8 places
Collagraph plates will be made with the expressive use of acrylic paste and mediums combined with other materials in an experimental way.
The plates will then be printed, incorporating both intaglio and relief techniques within each plate and the layering of colour using different ink viscosity.
Students can work from drawings, paintings or photographs in a very free way.

EXPRESSIVE LIFE PAINTING - 3 DAY

This is a 3-day course that will cover the basics of working from the figure expressively. The figure will be used as a focal point to work with expressive techniques, for example - large brushes, palette knives, hands, rags and any other mark-making tool. The removal of paint in this project is as important as the application. This project is particularly aimed at those students who feel the need to free up, and to those who have a basic knowledge which they wish to advance.
At the end of the course students will have a series of preliminary charcoal drawings and small paintings on paper and a finished painted canvas.

Oil paint -
White, Indian red, yellow ochre, ultramarine, Paynes grey.
Acrylic Paint colours as above
Large stretched primed canvas
Plenty of Cartridge paper A1
Large brushes (house hold brushes are good)
Sketch /note book
Linseed oil
Low odour White spirit

GUM ARABIC TRANSFER - 3 DAY WORKSHOP

This is an exciting new process that can give the effects and appearance of a lithograph. Involving the use of photocopies it uses the basic principles of lithography without the lengthy preparation that lithography requires. It is an excellent process to incorporate original drawings in sketchbooks and high contrast photography. Images can be layered in a range of tones and colour.


PAINTING THE PORTRAIT 4 DAY COURSE

This course will improve both your painting and drawing abilities to produce a reasonable likeness of the sitter. Bernard's excellent and clear tuition will provide you with the tools to advance your work in this area in your preferred medium. All abilities are welcome from beginners to advanced.
