SATURDAY LIFE DRAWING AND PAINTING

All abilities welcome. Greatly increase your observational 

drawing skills and learn to tackle with confidence the 

problems confronted when drawing from the life model. 

Bernard has been teaching at University level for 40 years

and his excellent and clear tuition will provide you with 

the tools to advance your work in your preferred medium.

 

EXPRESSIVE DRAWING AND PAINTING

Dates:   6 Mon each term as follows:

This course is for students who wish to develop their 

creative thinking and have an open mind to 

experimentation and expression. Students will have the 

opportunity to learn a wide range of drawing and painting 

skills. They will be encouraged to use these new 

techniques and experiences to develop their own 

personal style of work. Basic skills such as colour mixing 

and handling different types of paint, brushes, pallet 

knives and mixed media will be explored in full as well as 

less traditional tools.

 

EXPRESSIVE LIFE PAINTING

Dates: 3 Mondays in Spring Term

  Jan 17, 31, Feb 14 

Times:  10am – 4pm 

Class Size: 7 

This course covers the basics of working from the figure 

expressively. Learn new techniques, ie use of large 

brushes, palette knives, hands, rags and any other mark- 

making tool. This course is particularly aimed at those 

students who feel the need to free up, and for those who 

have some experience of expressive painting that they 

wish to advance. At the end of the course, students will 

have a series of preliminary charcoal drawings and small 

paintings on paper plus a finished painted canvas.

 

DRAWING AND PAINTING - PORTRAIT AND LIFE 

Tutor:   Marji Talbot 

Cost:   £240 (12 weeks) Autumn and Spring term

  £180  (9 sessions) Summer Term 

Dates:   Autumn Term: Sept 7 to  Dec 7 

  Spring Term - Jan 11 to Apr 5 

  Summer Term - May 3 to Jul 12

Class Size:  10 

Explore working from the life model using a variety of 

media with a mix of long and short poses. Portrait 

sessions run through the whole of the spring term while 

sessions withthe life model take place in the autumn and 

summer terms. All levels of ability are welcome.

 

DRAW BIG

3 DAY WORKSHOP 

Tutor:   Marji Talbot/Andrew Brown 

Cost:   £130 (includes model fees) 

Dates:   3 Days Thursday – Saturday

  Autumn - Dec 10 to 12 

  Summer - Jul 8 to 10 

Times:   10am –  4pm 

Class Size:  6 

Enjoy the challenge of producing life size drawings or 

paintings from the life model during one long pose. The 

first morning will be used to do quick studies and decide 

the pose. Bring you own drawing or painting materials but 

paper will be supplied at cost price. Must have life 

drawing experience.

 

CELEBRATING COLOUR AND PATTERN 

Tutor:   Helen Turner 

Cost:   £298 (includes day trip to Tate Modern) 

Dates:   6 Fridays 

  Autumn Term - Sept 10 to Oct 15 

Times:   10am –  4pm 

Class Size:  10 

Painting from a still life, this is a chance to use colour, 

pattern and flat space to make uncomplicated and 

vibrant paintings. A trip to the Tate Modern to see the 

Gaugain exhibition will serve as inspiration. Other rele- 

vant painters to look at are Rousseau, Matisse and Cha- 

gall.

 

DRAWING INSPIRATION FROM FLOWERS, PLANTS AND OBJECTS 

Tutor:   Helen Turner 

Cost:   £290 

Dates:  Six Fridays

  Spring Term - Mar 4 to Apr 8 

Times:   10am - 4pm 

Class Size:  10 

Students will be encouraged to make large scale draw- 

ings directly from a still life of plants, flowers and chosen 

objects. Using big brushes, ink, charcoal and collage we 

will be exploring texture, line and the relationship between 

the objects. Enjoy the opportunity to make intuitive, excit- 

ing work, using the accidental through a positive and cre- 

ative approach. 


UNTUTORED LIFE DRAWING 

Cost: £120 per term (12 sessions) 

Dates: Every Wednesday during term times 

Times: 10:30am to 1:30pm
